Understanding the contemporary processes of Afro-Colombian communities involves looking through the rear-view mirror to relate the historical causes of violence and exclusion that they live today. In this way, in recent years there have been migratory processes of people of african descent in Ibagué, which take place in a context in which the urban and the rural are united in a cycle. For this reason, in this city there has been an organizational process of vindication of rights that have been recognized before the local institutions within the framework of the formulation of a public policy. Faced with this process, as with many others, journalists and the media have enough flaws in their journalistic work in relation to black/Afro-descendant communities. Therefore, complex challenges are presented to make visible the realities and contexts of these populations. ; Entender los procesos contemporáneos de comunidades afrocolombianas implica mirar a través del retrovisor para relacionar las causas históricas de laviolencia y exclusión que hoy viven. En los últimos años se han dado procesos migratorios de personas afrodescendientes a Ibagué, en medio de un contexto en el que lo urbano y lo rural están unidos en un ciclo. Por ello en esta ciudad tiene lugar un proceso organizativo de reivindicación de derechos que les han sido reconocidos ante la institucionalidad local en el marco de la formulación de una política pública. Frente a este proceso, como con muchos otros, los periodistas y los medios de comunicación presentan bastantes falencias en su quehacer periodístico, en relación a temas de comunidades negras/afrodescendientes. Por ello se plantean complejos retos para visibilizar las realidades y contextos de estas poblaciones.

Background: The aim is to measure the association between fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mood and anxiety disorders using reliable psychiatric diagnoses according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th ed.; DSM-IV) and with a case–control design. Methods: Case–control study with cases (71 consecutive female patients with FMS) and controls (284 subjects without FMS), randomly drawn after a gender- and age-matching technique from the database of an epidemiological survey. Psychiatric diagnoses were conducted according to DSM-IV and carried out by clinical staff using a structured interview (Advanced Neuropsychiatric Tools and Assessment Schedule). QoL was measured by Short Form Health Survey (SF-12). Results: The lifetime prevalence of major depressive disorder (MDD; 43.7% vs 8.1%, p < .0001), bipolar disorder (BD; 21.1% vs 0.7%, p  < .0001), PTSD (8.4% vs 1.4%, p < .0001) and panic disorder (28.2% vs 5.6%, p < .001) was higher in people with FMS than in controls. People with FMS showed a poorer QoL than controls on the SF-12 (26.43 ± 6.04 vs 37.45 ± 5.80, p < .0001). Those with comorbidity with MDD and BD showed a mean SF-12 score of 24.75 ± 6.31 versus 29.52 ± 4.84 ( N = 25) of people with FMS without any mood disorder ( p = .002). The attributable burden of FMS in worsening QoL was found comparable to that of serious chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Conclusion: FMS is a disorder that 'in itself' can have a devastating impact on an individual's life. The frequency of the association with major depressive and bipolar disorders increases the impact on the QoL of people with FMS. One of the causes of this association appears to be the extreme vulnerability to chronic stress that this disorder involves. The findings have important clinical significance: the physician must interpret in the right dimension and with dignity the suffering of the people with FMS.

Introduction/Objective: The aim was to measure the lifetime prevalence of panic disorder (PD) in an Italian community sample, and to estimate the burden attributable to PD in compromising the quality of life (QoL) of people diagnosed with it. Methods: Community survey was conducted on a sample of 4,999 randomly selected adult subjects. Instruments used were semi-structured clinical interview Advanced Neuropsychiatric Tools and Assessment Schedule (ANTAS), administered by clinicians and allowing diagnosis according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (4th ed.; DSM-IV); Short Form Health Survey (SF-12). Results: The lifetime prevalence of PD was 3.6% (4.4% in females, 2.5% in males; p = .002). People with PD had a lower SF-12 score than the standardized community sample (35.5 ± 6.5 vs. 38.4 ± 5.9; p < .0001) with a mean difference (attributable burden) of 2.9 ± 0.7, that is, lower than PD with agoraphobia (AP; 4.2 ± 2.4). Wilson Disease (WD), Multiple Sclerosis, Major Depressive Disorder and Eating Disorders (ED) show a higher attributable burden in impaired QoL than PD, while the attributable burden of PD with AP is not lower than in ED and WD. Conclusions: The burden attributable to the impairment of QoL following a lifetime diagnosis of PD was found to be not so great compared to the impairment caused by Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) or neurological conditions. The comorbidity of PD with AP worsens QoL significantly.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is today the biggest public health challenge in the world (Park, 2020). The first case of COVID-19 was diagnosed on December 8, 2019, in Hubei province, China. From that day, in just over 3 months, the virus has spread to more than 177 countries/areas/territories around the world, with more than 266,073 confirmed cases and 11,184 deaths, according to WHO on March 21, 2020 (WHO, 2020). The most common clinical manifestations of COVID-19 are mild flu-like illness, potentially lethal acute respiratory distress syndrome, or fulminant pneumonia. As a result, numerous countries have decided to implement (some by government decrees, as well as martial laws) the establishment of mandatory social distance in a family environment, closing non-essential commercial environments, in an attempt to reduce the peak of the infection curve (Lewnard and Lo, 2020). We know that a large part of the world population is far from the minimum conditions of physical exercise recommended by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) to improve the health component (Katzmarzyk et al., 2019). This fact would give important relevance to the level of physical activity exercised by the population throughout the day.However, once the extreme hypokinetic behavior is implemented as a result of the quarantine, a cycle of perverse events begins, making part of the population more vulnerable to the deleterious effects of acute and chronic diseases, including respiratory tract infections (Hall et al., 2020). In a recent position paper presented by Chen et al. (2020), the authors try to propose to the general population to continue exercising regardless of the current moment the world is living. In fact, as the authors mention, based on other researchers, "anything is better than nothing," and the sedentary lifestyle is something that should not be encouraged, i.e., any energy expenditure added to the routine of these people would be significant. Recommendations for the population to keep regularly active highlight only a minimum applicable technical basis, without presenting any suitable parameters for carrying them out. From the initial positioning of Chen et al. (2020), the ACSM via publication on the website of the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (ACSM, 2020; WHO, 2020), as well as other institutions (ACSM, 2020; WHO, 2020), expanded the proposal about the practice of physical exercise to be performed at home. Tasks such as brisk walking, up and down stairs, dance, jump rope, yoga exercises, and bodyweight strength training are also recommended for indoor workout (Table 1). ; info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion
